The champ is beer.
Boxing legend and former WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes will appear Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Two Rivers Brewing Company during the release of the Easton brewpub's "The Easton Assassinator" beer, according to a news release. The event is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m.
The brew is a dark, doppelbock style beer. One dollar of every pint of beer sold during the fundraiser will go toward the building of a statue in honor of Holmes, according to a news release. Proceeds from "Easton Assassinator" merchandise -- which will include T-shirts, glassware and posters -- will also benefit the statue fund, the dedication of which is set for Nov. 3, on Holmes' 66th birthday, reports LehighValleyLive.com.
During his tenure in the ring, Holmes, a native of Easton, earned the nickname "The Easton Assassin." Holmes was the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion from 1978 to 1983.
