The Country Gate Players this evening will bring to life Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein," the musical version of the influential director's 1974 black-and-white comedy of the same name.

"Young Frankenstein" opens 8 o'clock tonight at the Country Gate Playhouse in Belvidere. Additional performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Oct. 7, 2 and 8 p.m. Oct. 8 and 2 p.m. Oct. 9.

Tickets cost $20-$22.

The story follows Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced "Fronk-en-steen"), a university professor who happens to be the grandson of Dr. Victor Frankenstein. He is summoned to his grandfather's castle, where eventually the urge to carry on the elder Frankenstein's work becomes too strong to resist.

Released in, Young Frankenstein stars Cloris Leachman (Frau Blucher), Marty Feldman (Igor), Peter Boyle (the monster), Teri Garr (Inga), Madeline Kahn (Elizabeth), Gene Hackman (the blind man) and the late Gene Wilder as Frederick Frankenstein. The musical version of the film opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran until 2009.
