Twelve men, one chair and a pair of clippers.
That was the scenario laid out Tuesday night at Pearly Baker's Alehouse in Easton for the "Beards for Breasts" fundraiser.
Those same men who stepped on stage embracing the warmth of facial hair left the stage feeling the cool evening air brush up against their shorn cheeks. They sat smiling, some laughing, as their beards were auctioned and then shaved off in the name of charity.
The result was an astounding $4,700 for the Cancer Support Group of the Greater Lehigh Valley, according to a post on the event's Facebook page. All of the night's tips were also donated to the Cancer Support Group, though the final tally has not yet been revealed.
The event was emceed by cancer survivor Sarah Trimmer, of Forks Township. Area breast cancer surgeons and doctors served as guest bartenders.
The 12 volunteers included Suddenly Samantha owner and co-organizer Steve Flowers, Two Rivers Brewing Company co-owner Troy Reynard and local musicians Mike Roi, Carter Lansing and Shawn Cavanaugh. The lineup was rounded out by Brad Kingsley, Jared Mast, Gurshinder Matharu, Dustin Moffitt, Eamon Kinsman, Jared Wierzbicki and 3rd & Ferry Fish Market owner Mike Pichetto.
