Fans of influential director John Carpenter will be able to watch such cult classics as Big Trouble in Little China, They Live and Escape from New York under the stars.
The Mahoning Drive-In Theater on July 29 and 30 will host a salute to the 68-year-old horror and science-fiction icon and innovator of the "slasher film" genre.
On July 29, the Lehighton theater will screen 1981's Escape from New York, followed by They Live (1988) and Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). The July 30 screenings will open with what the event's Facebook pages teases as a "surprise screening," followed by 1982's The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
Tickets cost $10 per night. Camping is available on the drive-in lot for an additional $10. Screenings start at dusk each night. (Gates open at 6 p.m.)
Carpenter tapped actor Kurt Russell for the lead roles in Escape from New York, The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. The characters Snake Plissken and Jack Burton, whom Russell memorably portrayed, are the subject of an upcoming Boom! Studios comic book series "Big Trouble in Little China/Escape from New York," due out in October.
In addition to the aforementioned films, Carpenter directed the groundbreaking 1978 horror film Halloween.
The Mahoning Drive-In Theater is located at 635 Seneca Road, Lehighton.
