ArtsQuest on Tuesday announced the additions of singer-songwriter Andrew Bird and Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist-bassist Esperanza Spalding to its 2017 concert lineup, along with the return of local favorites Slingshot Dakota.
Bird -- whose 2014 hit single "Capsized" peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart -- will perform 8 p.m. July 26 at Musikfest Cafe. His music has been featured in the films The Muppets and Crazy Stupid Love and the FX television series Baskets.
Joining Bird that evening will be Spalding, who won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011. Spalding has also appeared on Bird's web series, Live from the Great Room.
Tickets for Bird and Spalding -- which cost $35-$50 in advance and $39-$54 at the door -- go on sale 10 a.m. Friday through steelstacks.org and by calling 610-332-3378.
Alternative punk rockers Slingshot Dakota will return July 15 to their hometown of Bethlehem for a headlining show in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks' Fowler Blast Furnace Room. The husband-and-wife duo of singer-keyboardist Carly Commando and drummer Tom Patterson will be joined by supporting acts Ratboys and Bethlehem's Sing, Bird of Prey.
Earlier this year, Slingshot Dakota celebrated the anniversary of their 2016 full-length album Break with the release of a new EP, Broken. The EP consists of two previously unreleased songs: "Grudge" and "Dying Stars." In March 2016, Rolling Stone named Slingshot Dakota one of its "10 New Artists You Need to Know."
Tickets for Slingshot Dakota cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Show time is 7:30 p.m.
