Influential rapper Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, best known as a founding member of pioneering hip-hop group Run-DMC, is set to appear this weekend in Phillipsburg, though it won't be on a concert stage.
McDaniels has been added to the lineup of the 2018 Phillipsburg Comic Con. The convention will be held Saturday at Phillipsburg High School.
In addition to a successful music career, McDaniels is a co-founder of the independent comic book publisher Darryl Makes Comics, which publishes the comic book series, "DMC." Written by McDaniels, "DMC" "imagines an alternate history that blends traditional comic book storytelling with the pressures and anxieties of 1980s NYC, and explores how we got to where we are now," according to the convention's website.
McDaniels is the co-founder of the nonprofit Felix Organization. He earned an Emmy in 2007 for his VH1 documentary series DMC: My Adoption Journey.
Run-DMC's hits include "King of Rock," My Adidas," "It's Tricky," "Christmas in Hollis," and their rendition of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way." The group -- rounded out by Joseph "Run" Simmons and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell -- was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Run-DMC was the first rap group to land on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Other scheduled Phillipsburg Comic Con guests include writer G. Willow Wilson ("Ms. Marvel"), inker Klaus Janson ("The Dark Knight Returns"), writer-artist Joe Kelly ("Action Comics"), writer Amy Chu ("Red Sonja"), inker Scott Hanna, and artists Joe Staton, Lee Weeks and Mark Morales.
Admission for Phillipsburg Comic Con costs $5; free admission for children ages 10 and under accompanied by a paid adult.
