The 77-year-old industry veteran's pop art-inspired visuals on such Marvel titles as "Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.." "Captain America," "X-Men" and "Strange Tales" revolutionized the medium in the late 1960s. He is credited for co-creating the Nick Fury character and collaborated with Steven Spielberg on the look of Indiana Jones for Raiders of the Lost Ark. He was also the conceptual artist for the 1992 film Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Steranko's most famous contribution to DC Comics was writing, penciling, coloring and lettering a story for "Superman" No. 400. He also penned the Justice League Unlimited episode "The Ties That Bind."
