Singer-songwriter Pentley Holmes has a new single and music video to boot, the mid-tempo "A Good Friend of Mine."
In a post on Holmes' official Facebook page, he explains the song is about "the times we are about to fall and can't even see it coming." The clip was filmed in downtown Easton.
"A Good Friend of Mine" showcases Holmes' stirring vocals and a lightly distorted, satisfyingly smooth lead guitar riff; a compelling and delicate, yet powerful, piece of music.
The Phillispburg-based musician recently returned to the Lehigh Valley after a cross-country solo trek. Holmes and his band, Lucid Dreamers, released the album Rip Out My Heart in September 2016. The album spawned the single "Shape Up."
In related news, Easton's Roi and the Secret People have released a lyric video for their single "Saturn Girl." "Saturn Girl" is featured on the band's 2017 vinyl-exclusive album, Truck Stop Sushi.
Singer Mike Roi explained that the tune was partially inspired by his wife, Tara. "It's written as a personal story, but it's kind of open-ended," Roi said during a June 24 phone interview. "It was written for my wife when we started dating because she's so out of this world."
Roi and the Secret People are currently in the studio working on new material. Truck Stop Sushi -- a collection of studio and live recordings, and a cover of Nick Cave's "Ship Song" -- was released in May 2017. A digital companion, Bento Box, dropped four months later.
They have also released the albums Dog St. and Phoenix.
