If you are looking for the best case study of humanity, you will not find it any scientific journal or Reddit rabbit hole.

All you have to do, argues comedian Jon Lunger, peruse Amazon.com — specifically, the product review section. Such is the topic of Thursday’s “One Star Review” show at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, in which Lunger will share his favorite — perhaps “worst” is a more appropriate description — one-star reviews he’s culled from the site.

“One Star Review” will feature an opening performance by comedian Roya Hamadani.

“As an adult who uses the internet on a daily basis, I’ve discovered people are stupid,” Lunger joked Tuesday evening during a phone interview. “I’ve found the vast majority (of reviews) are helpful, but then there is a whole subcategory of reviews where you go, ‘How are these people alive?’.”

Lunger, formerly of improv comedy troupe ManDudeBro, said he is a fan of Amazon and uses the site regularly. He guarantees his performance will be a deep dive into the inner workings of consumerism and humanity.

“People have really passionate opinions about really dumb products,” Lunger joked. “It’s hilarious to me, not only the reviews people choose to leave for products, but the decisions they make to buy some of these products.”

“One Star Review” will feature reviews of products ranging from clothing and books to “things you can put in your body.” The show will include a live demonstration and testing of not one, but two, reviewed products found on Amazon.

Pressed to reveal specific products, Lunger remained coy, but offered a brief non-spoiler tease. “One product may or may not involve Katy Perry.”

“Let’s not forget that Amazon is a bookstore, first and foremost; some of the best reviews are on books. I like to think it’s a fun show, but it’s also definitely a sad look into the state of the American education system,” Lunger joked. “(The show) is a great opportunity to make sure the people who live around you aren’t complete idiots.”

“One Star Review” is 8 p.m. Thursday in the Fowler Blast Furnace Room of the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. Tickets cost $6.50-$8.
