If you are in search of new music to fill out your Memorial Day weekend picnic playlist, Lehigh Valley bands The Crowning and Summer Scouts should make the cut.
On Thursday, Stroudsburg-based hard rock outfit The Crowning released the single “Will I Make It Home.” The song features strong vocals from singer-guitarist Micah Martin as he lyrically puts himself in the mindset of those in the armed forces. “Home” is a powerful, well-produced tune that plays to the band’s strengths — leaning heavily into their modern rock influences.
The Crowning is hosting its annual Five Acre Fest outdoor music concert, which continues today in Upper Mount Bethel Township.
Also out this week is “Flourish,” the latest single from Allentown-based power pop quintet Summer Scouts. An up-tempo jammer of a tune, “Flourish” is a reflection of the band’s impressive ability to wrap catchy, bombastic vocals around meaty guitar hooks — in particular, the dynamic one-two punch of front-woman Katherine DeMenno and Ross Huber (lead guitar, vocals)
The video for “Flourish” was filmed at the Roxy Theater in Northampton and at the Alternative Gallery in Allentown.
